No Key Operation, No Picture, No Playback, Noisy Audio [REV.

Symptom:
* During DVD playback, the display and/or
picture freezes and the function keys become inoperable intermittently.
*
The message "READING" is displayed and no playback is possible.
* After
turning the set on, the model name is displayed correctly but no other
indication will appear afterwards.
* Noise may be heard from the speakers
or the headphones.
Cause:
Malfunctioning AV decoder IC207
(ZIVA5X-C2F) on the DMB03 Board.
Remedy:
Confirm the type of IC207
installed, and the waveform at pin 203 as outlined below. Replace IC207 if
necessary.
1. Confirming the IC207 Type
* Check the IC207 type by
reading its inscription. If the type description "C1" is printed on it,
continue to check the waveform at pin 203. If "C2" is printed on it and the
lot number ranges between WYF***** and WYG24***, proceed to confirm the
waveform at pin 203 as well.
* In case the lot number printed on IC207 is
WYG25*** or higher, or a white circle marking is found on it, or the type
description is "C2 B", the procedure described in this bulletin is not to be
applied.
2. Confirming the Waveform at IC207 Pin 203
* Turn on the set
and measure the waveform at IC207 pin 203 (BUS CLK = clock signal). Confirm
that the waveform is clearly rectangular as shown on the left below. If the
waveform is as shown in the middle or on the right, replace IC207 with the
improved type listed below.
* If the waveform is correct as shown on the
left, also confirm the waveform at IC207 pin 147 (XCK = clock signal). The
waveform at pin 147 should be similar to the correct sample waveform at pin
203. If this is not the case, replace IC207 with the improved type.

NOTE
* The frequency
of the BUS CLK (pin 203) signal being about 37 MHz and about 11 MHz for the
XCK (pin 147) signal, use an oscilloscope with a bandwidth of at least 100
MHz. Also the use of a FET probe for measurement is recommended.
* The
symptoms described above may appear due to probe noise or shorting adjacent
pins when checking the waveform at pin 203 or pin 147. If this occurs, turn
the set off and on, and then measure the waveform at pin 203 and pin 147
again.
