Before Starting QV-LINK

- Communication Cable Connection
A special cable is used to connect the Camera to your computer's RS-232C serial port for data exchange. Never disconnect the cable while an upload or download operation is in progress.

- Power Supply
If the batteries of the Camera are weak, there is the danger of power suddenly turning off while a data communication operation is in progress. Because of this, it is strongly recommended to use the AC adaptor whenever performing a data communication operation.
Also, you should plug your computer and the Camera's AC adaptor directly into the wall socket instead of sharing an outlet with other equipment. Sharing a power outlet with other equipment may cause an unstable power supply, resulting in malfunction of the QV-LINK.

- Camera Power Switch
Doing any of the following while a data communication procedure is in progress can cause your computer to hang up.
    - Turning off the Camera power.
    - Unplugging the AC adaptor from the Camera's power supply terminal.
   - Opening or closing the Camera's battery compartment cover while using battery power.
Always make sure that there is no data communication operation being performed before turning off Camera power.

Data Communication Troubleshooting <Camera Computer>

- Checking Procedure
Take the following steps if you encounter problems with data communications.
	    1. Power switch on the Camera
The camera may be locked if the communication error occurred. Try to turn the camera power off and then back on again.
             2. Communication speed (COM speed)
The communication may fail if the communication speed is too fast for your computer. If this happens, try to lower the communication speed using the File/Preferences command. You can choose a speed and check whether the speed fits to communicate with the camera using the Test button in the Preferences dialog box.
If the communication TEST fails, turn the camera power off and then back on again before you attempt other communication speed.

              3. Communication port (COM port)
Make sure that the cable connecting the Camera and your computer is connected to the same port as that selected by the [Preferences] command (COM 1 to COM 4).

              4. Disk cache
It is recommended to set the disk cache of the Windows off when you run the QV-LINK application. Failure to do so may cause a communication error since your computer caches the information frequently. Consult the Windows manual for further details about the disk cache.

               5. Other applications
Application such as Facsimile or MIDI software may occupy the serial port even after quitting the application. This may cause the communication error when you subsequently run the QV-LINK application. Consult the manuals for the application softwares to know how to release the serial port from the application.

               6. Serial port of your computer
Some computers support the power saving mode which does not supply the power to the serial port (RS-232) when it is activated. Consult the manual that comes with your computer to change the settings.
It is necessary to use the asynchronous transmission mode for the data transmission with the camera. If the serial port (RS-232) of your computer is not set to this mode, the communication error may result. Consult the manual for your computer to change the mode.

Cautions for OLE2 Drag & Drop operation

- Limitations if the OLE2 is not installed in your computer
The QV-LINK program can run only when the OLE2 is supported. When you install the QV-LINK for Windows 3.1, the setup program automatically installs the environment necessary for the OLE2. The Windows 95 supports the OLE2 drag and drop operation.

QV-LINK CAM Image Data

- CAM File Limitations when Using 256-Color Display
Images are sent from the Camera in full color (16.77 million colors), so a true rendition of the original cannot be produced using 256-color display. Use of 256-color display also makes the screen paint operation extremely slow. All of this means you should use full-color display whenever possible.
If other image editing application is being used to display an image in the window, the view of the same image produced by the QV-LINK may differ from that shown in the other application's window.

- CAM File Conversion Limitations
The Camera can output a video signal for display on a television screen. However, the resolution of the image produced on the Camera's built-in display and by its video output is somewhat less than that of the image on the computer screen. This means that even if you use a high-resolution word processor to produce small letters and download the text to the Camera, the resolution of the text in the resulting image will still be reduced. The text output will be approximately the same level as that seen on video game screens.

- Saving Camera Image Data to a Disk
When you save Camera image data to a Disk Album folder on your computer, file names are automatically assigned using the name of the folder where the files are stored, followed by a three-digit number and CAM extension.
 Example:
   Directory Name: IMAGE
   File Names:
    IMAGE001.CAM
    IMAGE002.CAM
    etc.
Adding new CAM files to a Disk Album folder appends the new files to the end of the existing ones.
 Example:
Name of Last File in Folder:
    IMAGE123.CAM
Names automatically assigned to added files:
    IMAGE124.CAM
    IMAGE125.CAM
    etc.
You can change the name of a file if you move it to another folder. Simply change the name on the File Manager/Explorer as you normally would.
Further storage of CAM files using the [Backup] command or by copying from the Camera Album window and pasting into a Disk Album window is impossible whenever the Disk Album folder contains a CAM file with a name whose least three-digit number is 999. Whenever you have problems performing the above operations, use the [File] [Open] command or Windows File Manager/Explorer to see if there is a CAM file in the folder whose name ends with "999" (*****999.CAM).

Albums

- Camera Album
Opening the Camera Album window using [Camera] [Get Camera Album] does not save the contents of the Camera Album window to your Computer's disk. It is recommended that you save the Camera Album data to disk or other medium before performing any Camera control operation (playback, delete, sequence change).

- Disk Albums
A Disk Album window can be opened by specifying a Disk Album folder. To make CAM file and Disk Album folder management easier and to avoid getting Disk Album folders mixed up with other folders, use of a special CAM file drive or CAM file folder is recommended for storage of all your Disk Albums and CAM files.

- Empty Disk Albums
If the Disk Album window that appears when you execute [File] [Open Album] is empty, it means there are no CAM files in the Disk Album folder you opened. It does not necessarily mean that the folder is empty, however, because it might contain other types of program or data files. Because of this, you should always use the File Manager/Explorer to carefully check what is inside of a folder before deleting it.

Operating the Camera while QV-LINK is running

- Camera Auto Power Off Function
The Camera is designed to turn off automatically if no operation is performed for a specific amount of time. This Auto Power Off function will operate while the Camera is connected to your computer if the Camera Album window is not open on the computer screen, or if the [Get From Camera] or [Get Camera Album] dialog box is not open.

Computer Operation

- Floppy Disks
Use of an old floppy disk to stored CAM image data can cause a system error to occur. If this happens, reformat the disk or use a newer one.
You can expect to store approximately 50 images on a 1.44MB 2HD floppy disk. Note that this number may vary depending on the contents of the image files actually being stored.

- Available Hard Disk Space
Normal QV-LINK operation will become impossible if your hard disk becomes full. If this happens, take steps to free up some space.

- Screen Saver
Disable any screen saver or other utility that could possibly force an interrupt of QV-LINK operation. Such a forced interrupt, especially during a data communication operation, can cause serious damage to your computer and the Camera. Be sure to disable such utilities whenever you are using QV-LINK. If your computer hangs up while running QV-LINK, reset the computer and turn the Camera power off and then back on again.

> Conclusion
The CASIO LCD Digital Camera can be used for much more than recording images for uploading to a computer. Utilizing its features, compact size, light weight, and simple operation, the Digital Camera provides everyone with the Visual Communication World. Downloading images created on the Computer to the Camera makes your presentation more impressive. Exchanging and gathering of captured images between friends or families makes it possible to use the LCD Digital Camera as a digital album. Try using the Digital Camera effectively in a variety of scenes and situations.
